Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)

A durable, secure and scalable object store in the AWS cloud.

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), provides industry-leading scalability, security and performance in an object storage service. It gives users from all different types of industries the capability to store and protect their data for several use cases including hosting websites, mobile apps, backup and disaster recovery, archiving, data lakes, big data analytics, enterprise applications and IoT devices.

Amazon S3 provides easy-to-use management features which can help you organize your data and fine-tune access controls for your business' specific organizational and compliance requirements. Designed for 99.999999999% durability, S3 is trusted to store data for millions of companies around the world because it automatically creates and stores copies of all S3 objects across multiple systems. This durability means your business' data is available when you need it and protected against failures, errors, and threats.

Amazon S3 automatically scales your storage resources to meet your business' demands and without any upfront investment or resource procurement cycles. With S3 you can use Storage Class Analysis functionality to discover objects in your buckets that based on access patterns should be moved to a lower-cost storage class, and you can configure an S3 Lifecycle policy to execute the transfer. Using S3 Intelligent-Tiering, you can store data automatically in the most cost effecting storage class based on changing or unknown access patterns. You can meet data residency requirements such as with Canadian PIPEDA and PHIPA laws with the S3 Outposts storage class and store data on-site in your Outposts environment using S3 on Outposts.

Amazon S3 can be used to store your data and keep it secure from unauthorized access due to its encryption features and access management tools. Amazon S3 enables you to block public access to all of your objects at the bucket or the account level with S3 Block Public Access. Compliance programs such as HIPAA/HITECH, EU Data Protection Directive, PCI-DSS, FISMA and FedRAMP help you meet regulatory requirements, and Amazon S3 integrates with Amazon Macie to protect your sensitive data.
